You probably already own one.

But if you don’t, or yours is blunt and sketchy, this is the tool that makes old silicone removal a lot easier.

We recommend a sharp utility knife when tackling bathroom reseals. It’s one of the most effective ways to cut out stubborn, cured silicone the removal tool won't reach.

Why You Actually Need It

When resealing a shower or splashback, the old silicone has to come out completely.

If you leave residue behind:

  • New silicone won’t bond properly

  • Mould can return

  • The seal won’t last

A sharp blade lets you:

  • Slice along tile edges cleanly

  • Cut through thick or hardened silicone

  • Lift and peel away old material

  • Get into deep cracks

It speeds up the job and gives you a cleaner surface to work with.

Why It’s Optional

We don’t automatically include a knife in our reseal kits because most people already have one in the toolbox.

But not all knives are equal.

A solid, sharp utility knife makes prep easier and safer, especially in tiled wet areas.

If you’re unsure whether yours is up to the task, adding one to your kit removes the guesswork.
